SFB TRR 43

Introduction

Our transregional research venture SFB TRR43 concentrates on immunological processes that are not only involved in classical inflammatory disorders of the nervous system, but also appear to play a major role in the pathogenesis of ”atypical” neuroimmunological pathologies.

Clinicians and scientists from Berlin and Göttingen focus on two main topics:

  • rapid innate immune responses, with microglia being part of both the immune and the nervous system (project area A)
  • adaptive immune responses, since T cells infiltrate and traffic through the CNS in various CNS diseases (project area B)

to gain new insights into immune functions in different CNS diseases and to open up new avenues for preventing or treating diverse CNS disorders.

Spokesperson (Berlin): Prof. Dr. med. Frank Heppner
Deputy Spokesperson (Göttingen): Prof. Dr. med. Wolfgang Brück

The SFB TRR 43 is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG.

  • 1st funding period: Jan 2008 - Dec 2011
  • 2nd funding period: Jan 2012 - Dec 2016
